General ES Questionaire
CAPT 116 parts 1 & 2
All members of CAP who intend to train in ANY area of Emergency or Homeland Security Services must take the CAP General Emergency Services questionaire, the CAPT 116, before beginning any training. This is an open book test which is intended to get you familiar with the basic facets of Emergency Services and the Incident Command System. Links to relevant documentation is included at the start of the questionaire.
ES Continuing Education
CAPT 117 Parts 1, 2 & 3
Various phases of training require further testing to make sure you have the minimum understanding, and so there are 3 further tests that you may need to take as you progress (CAPT 117).
Skills Evaluator Training (SET)
In order to be able to evaluate others in their progress and be able to sign-off others in their training, you must be certified in the area for which you are evaluating, and you must be a Skills Evaluator. You must take the SET test in order to become a Skills Evaluator.
Note that some skills have other requirements in order to be an evaluator as well (e.g. Ground Team Leader and Pilot specialties).
Task Guides & SQTRs
Once you have completed the above pre-requisite training, you are ready to begin training in a specific Emergency Services Qualification. The task guides below show all of the tasks required for each qualification. In the rear of each task guide, there are Specialty Qualification Training Records (SQTRs) which are used to track your training and to receive the required signatures verifying your training. The SQTRs are broken out for you below as well for easier access.
For Aircrew, the first Specialty Qualification to pursue should be Mission Scanner (MS).
For ground teams, start with Ground Team Member Level 3 (GTM3) and/or Urban Direction Finding (UDF). You can do both of these qualifications at the same time since they overlap considerably.
Specialty Qualification Task Guides
These guides can be purchased through Vanguard in condensed size (compared to your printed copy). Ask your Emergency Services Officer if quantities are available at the squadron or to order you one (~$4).
